DAT instruments dataloggers make the difference. No matter which is the brand of the drilling equipment, of the pump, of the hydromill, of the crane. No matter its dimensions, the date of manufacturing and the technology used. With a competitive price, even the oldest equipment can obtain new and modern functions.

A perfect interface

Dataloggers produced by DAT instruments can be installed on equipment of any age and dimension. Usually used on equipment such as:

– piston pump, helicoidal gear pump and turbine pump for cement injections, sleeved grouting pipes, injections with packer (TAM grouting);
– gear pump for Lugeon test;
– crane with hydraulic or electric vibrator for vibroflotation;
– drilling machine for drilling or for DAC test, jet grouting, soil mixing, CFA;
– mechanical or hydraulic crane with grab for diaphragm wall (dWalls);
– hydromill

The datalogger and the mechanical equipment are two independent systems, which are working in parallel. DAT instruments designs sensors in order to be able to interface with any equipment. For this reason, the datalogger matches the system and not the contrary. The brand too is not a fundamental factor. DAT instruments dataloggers can be adaptable to any kind of geotechnical equipment for soil consolidation or special foundation, of any model and of any brand.

 

Advantages

Any equipment, even the oldest one, with a DAT instruments datalogger can obtain different kind of automatisms. An example of this has occurred in Turin (North of Italy) while building a new metro line. Datalogger has been installed on sleeved grouting pipes (TAM grouting) pumps letting executing four pipes at the same time. Another example has occurred in the Ivory Coast with CFA equipment.

For any kind of work

With the DAT instruments datalogger it has been possible to control and establish the rod rise speed thanks to solenoid valves already present on the drilling equipment. In case of jet grouting it is possible to obtain perfect steps in time and centimetres. This is what happened in Turkey and in Singapore working with very old equipment.

These functionalities let the company be able to have detailed reports, in any kind of work, which can be directly given to the Construction Supervision. This means saving time and, therefore, saving money and knowing that a great job has been carried out.

In works such as sleeved grouting pipes, free injections, jet grouting or CFA, where automatisms are necessary, using a datalogger the operator only needs to set up pre-established parameters following the project lines. Everything else is carried out by the datalogger making the operator life easier. At the same time, the operator can always watch all parameters in real time through the datalogger display. In this way, even if there are no automatisms, the operator can regulate manually speed, pressure and everything else.

An equipment always ready to be used

When high performing instruments are needed, drilling companies ask for DAT instruments dataloggers. Two JET SDP / IB, installed on two drilling machines (a Casagrande C6 and an Atlas Copco Mustang), are working in the Taranto port.

The field

These two drilling machines are working in the former Yard-Belleli zone inside the multifunctional Taranto port and where, under the direction of Astaldi SpA, an ordnance clearance is carried out. This ordnance was connected to the presence of unexploded bombs and useful for the realization of diaphragm walls (dWalls) in order to stem pollution which in this zone is a huge problem. After these ordnance operations, a drainage of 15 mt in the seabed will be performed and a new quay (which is going to contain waste material) will be built.

“Our two instruments”, Daniele Dal Boni, specialized technician of DAT instruments, explains us “are installed on a Casagrande C6 and an Atlas Copco Mustang. These drilling rigs need to realize drills of 20-30 mt depth in which plastic pipes are going to be positioned in order to insert GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) to find any possible explosive remnant. JET SDP / IB datalogger diagraphies will be useful to know if it is possible to realize dWalls and to decide which technology it is better to carry out. Engineers have two choices: CSM (Cutting Soil Mixing) or dWalls using the classic grab on the digging equipment. Obviously, as it is an ordnance clearance, CSM will be the best choice but it depends on ground conditions”. DAT instruments datalogger, demanded by the Supervisors of the Works, gives the opportunity to know the real structure of the ground layer. In this case, it is fundamental as the work is carried out with not perfectly known materials.

A market recovery

Taranto field is part of an Italian market that, after some suffering years, is coming out of the crisis. This is the comment of Amedeo Valoroso, founder and owner of DAT instruments. “Italian field had a particular crisis in the last years. We noticed it as our products, in those years, were installed in a high percentage in export markets. In facts, DAT instruments dataloggers are designed for big public works and unfortunately in our Country, Italy, these works have been blocked for years. This situation caused bankruptcy for many Italian companies; this means loss of jobs and know how. Now, finally, there is an increase in maintenance and public works and we constantly receive demands from Italian companies.”.

Now it is time to focus on the JET SDP / IB datalogger.

JET SDP / IB

Thanks to DAT instruments datalogger, it is possible to understand the geomechanical characteristics of soil measuring drilling parameters in real time. In particular, diagraphy in function of depth underlines the position of each stratigraphic level. JET SDP / IB let display, on datalogger LCD, instantaneous values in function of depth and data transfer to PC in order to file, export and print detailed reports.

JET DEPTH by DAT instruments

Via proper sensors, this instrument let measure and record the following selectable parameters:

  • drill depth (JET DEPTH)
  • feed force (JET FORCE)
  • translation rod speed (JET DEPTH)
  • boring rod rotation torque (JET TORQ)
  • boring rod rotation speed (JET ROT)
  • drilling fluid pressure (JET PRESS)
  • date and time of starting and finishing work, duration
  • soil related energy calculation.

For this kind of work, DAT instruments provides even the more sophisticated JET 4000 AME / J and the new DAT WideLog touch screen datalogger, both extendable with the following functions: jet grouting, soil mixing, CFA and vibroflotation.

Record, transfer, file

Data acquired by the datalogger are recorded on the internal memories and can be transferred to PC with Easy DAT software via JET C USB cable, USB pendrive and even via WiFi Internet connection, Ethernet and 3G-4G. This software let organize data, process them, create graphics and print them. It is also available a function to export data to Microsoft Excel.

In the context of its development politics, Morocco is carrying out the progressive evolution of a port platform that is in the Mediterranean coast of the eastern region, which has been named Nador West Med. A huge contribution to the realisation of diaphragms has been offered thanks to the JET DSP 100 / D datalogger of DAT instruments.

An ambitious project

We are in Nador, in the northeast of Morocco, about 250 miles away from the Strait of Gibraltar. In this city, we can follow the development of a new port, which is most likely to become one of the biggest port of the entire African continent. In this zone, which is already in a strategic position for the traffic of containers and petroleum products, a new port in deep waters is developing and it is related to the containers market and to the processing, packaging and storage of hydrocarbons and their related products but even to the processing of bulk materials, above all carbon. This project, with an industrial integrated platform too, has three main purposes. First to accelerate and strengthen the social and economic development of this eastern region through important infrastructures which are going to improve this region competitiveness and to attract national and international investments. Second to strengthen the maritime role of Morocco in the Western Mediterranean. Last but not least to ensure the supply of energetic products, carbon in particular, for a future thermal station.

The first step

The first step is to build a main dam of about 4,200 mt and then an addition one of 1,200 mt; a terminal for containers with a platform of 1,520 mt; a terminal for hydrocarbons; a terminal for carbon with a platform of 360 mt; a ro-ro terminal and a service dock. In one year, this station is going to work with 3 millions of containers, 25 millions of tons of hydrocarbons; 7 millions of tons of carbon; and 3 millions of any other material. Everything will be supported by industrial, logistic and service areas.

Perfect diaghragms with JET DSP 100 / D datalogger

Among all machines in field, there is a Casagrande B250 which is carrying out many diaphragms together with a JET DSP 100 / D datalogger. In this particular field, the use of the Italian datalogger is very important.

JET DSP 100 / D performance

On its wide backlit monitor, JET DSP 100 / D datalogger is able to show and record, on its internal memory, the following parameters:

  • Depth (with 1cm resolution)
  • X and Y axes inclination to the vertical (with 0,1° resolution)
  • Grab rotation, Z axes (1° resolution)
  • X and Y axes deviation to the vertical (1cm resolution)

Data are acquired via sensors installed on the equipment. The link of the inclination sensor to the datalogger can be carried out via cable or via radio. The JET DSP 100 / D is able to record the excavation data in function of depth. During the different strokes necessary to realize the diaphragm, the data of each one are displayed and the data of the latest stroke are recorded in order to analyse the excavation on PC, in office. This datalogger can be set via PC. In this way it is possible to set sensors, to set data acquisition parameters and to indicate full-scale values in the graphics.

It has a colour, full HD, extremely resistant and enormous touch screen area; it is really an innovative datalogger and it is the one that DAT instruments (an Italian company, in spite of the Anglophone business name) just launched on the market. It is called WideLog and the innovations are so many and so substantial; starting from the big touch screen monitor where, with a few and intuitive taps, you can collect plenty of operative and management parameters of the controlled machines. It has 18,5” monitor (just to make it clearer we are talking of a 41×23 cm little toy), it has a colour screen and can also be used wearing gloves.

The body and the structure in general of the new WideLog are extremely resistant, specifically designed to grant a long life in difficult applications on site; the datalogger is made of stainless steel and aluminium (for the back) and it also works without problems with brackish weather, extreme temperatures, sand or water: just like an Ipad on steroids!

The data transmission (the memory unit in the datalogger is really capacious) is very simple: you can use a normal drive USB or an internet connection. On the WideLog there are both the WiFi antenna and the Ethernet access.

The WideLog was developed to work in a wide spectrum of applications on site (it is enough to install the right kit of sensors), from jet grouting to cement injections, from bored piles to drilling works and DAC tests, from CFA to deep mixing and soil mixing, from vibroflotation to diaphragm walls, and from hydromills to Lugeon and Lefranc tests.

From the R&D Department in DAT instruments, here comes a new 18,5” touch screen datalogger. Versatile, resistant, expandable, perfect for every technology, easy to use and definitely fantastic.

A real turning point for DAT instruments Research and Development Department; the new datalogger designed and realised by the Italian company was created according to the needs/demand of the Clients. The DAT WideLog project arose from the specific request of a horizontal drilling construction site were there was the necessity to record different parameters and to display them simultaneously on the screen. Here comes the creation of a Wide monitor and a lot of improvements.

The name DAT WideLog immediately identifies the main characteristic of the new product: a 18,5” (41×23 cm) touch screen monitor, which shows a remarkable quantity of graphs, numerical values, needle indicators and everything is necessary to the operator to execute with high precision in a clear and detailed way all drilling and grouting phase.
As already mentioned, is totally a colour, touch screen datalogger; characteristics that definitively simplify the use. The touch screen, as every other DAT instruments product, is deployed for the construction site, it is very resistant and can be also used wearing gloves. At the same time, the big full HD monitor allows to visualise a lot of different data simultaneously, with graphs giving an immediate perception of the maximum, medium and lowest value; moreover, it also shows the prefixed value to which all other parameters have to tend.
The large internal memory records several data and is a totally solid state component; This fact improves the robustness and resistance to external shocks.
DAT instruments, DAT WideLog, datalogger per HDD, datalogger USBData can be transmitted via USB pen drive or Internet: in fact, the DAT WideLog is equipped with a Ethernet access and Wi-Fi antenna for Internet connection. Moreover, it is also possible to install a 3G-4G modem. During the operating phase data are transferred to every single hole, and they are available in the office in real time. As an example, it is possible to record the engine RPM, the temperature of water and oil, or any other parameter required by the Client.

The JET SDP / IB datalogger is used for the preparatory land surveys before the realisation of an aqueduct in Turkey with the purpose of supplying the city of Ankara with drinkable water.

DAT instruments dataloggers know no borders. Actually, it is the international request that gains more and more importance for the design of instruments which are able to assist and certify the drill activities.
As in the case of the realisation of an aqueduct in Turkey: the purpose of the project is to supply with drinkable water the capital city, Ankara, through a 31.6km tunnel. The water of the Gerede stream, a branch of the Filyos river, will be directed to the Dam of Çamlıdere. The project includes the realisation of three compartments, an aspiration system of the water, a plant for the treatment of sediments and different canals including the main one which will bring water from the Gerede Creek to the Çamlıdere reservoir. The tunnel will have a diameter of 4.5 m and will grant the transmission of water with a flow of 40 m³/sec. The lot where DAT instruments datalogger operates is assigned to Kolin İnşaat company, the supervision of the project is entrusted to the governmental authority State Hydraulic Works.
The JET SDP / IB datalogger was installed by the Italian Technical Team on a small drilling probe, which in turn was mounted on a TBM.

The company uses the device to carry out surveys in the soil where the excavation of the aqueduct will take place; in this way it will be easier to control potential geological anomalies. When the datalogger is used as surveying system – basing on drilling parameters such as rotation force, torque and speed, all registered in terms of depth – the company is able to determine the composition of the soil and to operate in full acknowledge of the situation, avoiding damages to the drilling machinery and verifying the correct execution of the work done according to the specific needs of the construction site. Thanks to the real time measurement of the drilling parameters, with the DAT instruments datalogger it is possible to deduce the geomechanical characteristics of the soil. The diagraphy obtained in terms of depth highlights the values of the different stratigraphic levels of the ground. The Italian company, based in the north of Italy, proposes two different solutions for this application: JET SDP / IB which was used for this project and the JET 4000 AME / J, which is more sophisticated and can be upgraded with the jet-grouting function.
With the JET SDP / IB it is possible to visualize directly on the datalogger screen several instantaneous values in terms of depth, and to transfer data on a PC to archive, elaborate, export and print detailed reports. The obtained data are recorded on the internal memories and can be transferred to a computer with the JET S 104 software installed (designed by DAT instruments too) using the JET C USB cable or a USB pendrive. The software is deployed to organize and elaborate data and to sketch on the screen all graphs and charts; it is also possible to print them. The Italian company also offers a solution to export datas to Microsoft Excel. Schematically, the JET SDP / IB, using the right sensors, lets you measure and record the following parameters, that you can select: drill depth (JET DEPTH); feed force (JET FORCE); translation rod speed (JET DEPTH); boring rod rotation torque (JET TORQ); boring rod rotation speed (JET ROT); drilling fluid pressure (JET PRESS); date and time of drilling and duration of the work, soil relative energy.
In case of more complex needs, DAT instruments offer the JET 4000 AME / J version; beyond the functions already explained of the JET SDP / IB, it is possible to automatically start the probe at the beginning of the recording and to automatically block it when it reaches the pre set depth. There is also the option to automatically recognise the rod changing with automatic stop of the recording. Thanks to several sensors, with the JET 4000 AME / J it is possible to measure and record drill depth (JET DEPTH); feed force (JET FORCE); translation rod speed (JET DEPTH); boring rod rotation torque (JET TORQ); boring rod rotation speed, (JET ROT); inclination of the mast on X and Y axes (JET INCL XY); drilling fluid pressure (JET PRESS); flow and volume of the fluid (JET FLOW); date and time of drilling and duration of the work, soil relative energy; access for GPS receiver.

We are talking about a tunnel which is more than 30km long and deployed to supply (with a flow of more than 40 cubic meters per minute) the big reservoir of the Çamlıdere Dam, which will provide potable water to Ankara, the Turkish capital city. This project involves the Turkish company Kolin İnşaat under the supervision of the governmental authority State Hydraulic Works.

This work, of such fundamental importance, involves also the Italian technology; in fact, the DAT instruments company based in Cairate, has equipped with its datalogger JET SDP / IB the TBM employed in the excavation and in the realization of the tunnel. The instrumentation will be used to control the surveys: based on drilling parameters collected in real time, such as torque, feed force, rotation speed – all registered in terms of depth – the company is able to determine the composition of the soil and therefore to operate in full acknowledge of the situation, avoiding damages to the drilling machinery.

Moreover, with the JET SDP / IB it is possible to visualize directly on the datalogger LCD instantaneous and average recorded parameters in terms of depth, and to download them to a computer to archive, elaborate, export and print detailed reports. Among available parameters there are: drill depth, feed force, translation rod speed, boring rod rotation torque, boring rod rotation speed, drilling fluid pressure, date and time of drilling and duration of the work, soil relative energy.
